09/06/2010
Hospitality Sheffield, the voice of the hospitality sector within Sheffield and the surrounding area is celebrating its newest member, bringing the membership level to 30 its highest number to date.Ian Slater, Chair of Hospitality Sheffield and General Manager of the Park Inn, Sheffield, says:
Given the slowdown in the economy, it is fantastic that Hospitality Sheffield continues to flourish and grow. We are delighted to welcome our newest member, the Employers Forum, as they do so much in the region to encourage people back into work and recognise the hospitality sector as one of the key employers within the region.
Across Yorkshire as a whole the tourism industry is valued at over £6.1bn with the hospitality industry independently contributing in excess of £500m to the local economy.
The members of Hospitality Sheffield collectively employ over 1500 staff; with a joint turnover of £76million; provide in excess of 1800 bedrooms and with over 400 meeting rooms havethe capacity to host 62,000 delegates. These numbers speak for themselves so its no surprise that the city is fast gaining momentum as a first class destination for conferences and events, winning many awards and accolades for the destination, service and quality.
Ian Slater continues,
As an association, we do so many things more effectively in partnership and can learn so much from each other in the process. In times of economic difficulty, there is far more to be gained by working together especially when we see the increase in competition from other regional cities. Our continued rise in membership has demonstrated this once again
Hospitality Sheffield will recognise its employees later this year with the annual Hospitality Awards. Now in their 7th year, the awards focus on the hard work and talent of people working in the industry. This years awards will take place at the Mecure St Pauls Hotel on September 30th and are now the key event in the citys hospitality calendar.
